Making Beaufort County and the Lowcountry
Better for Persons with disAbilities

The Beaufort County disAbilities Coalition is a working group comprised of local individuals and agencies who wish to make available or expand needed services and opportunities for individuals with disAbilities. Many sectors are represented on our member list education, non profit, medical, social, advocacy, and healthcare. These volunteers strive to make a positive impact on the local community - specifically those with a disAbility, or caring for someone with a disAbility.

This organization falls under Together for Beaufort County, an arm of the Human Services Alliance. Formed by volunteers who wanted to make a positive impact within the disAbilities community in 2008, Beaufort County disAbilities Coalition has worked to improve life for people with disAbilities by conducting research, hosting resource fairs, creating resource guides, supporting the groups and agencies that directly serve persons with disAbilities, and much more.

Our goal as members is to:

  • Reduce duplication of efforts across organizations serving similar or same persons

  • Enable and enhance mutual co-operation and coordination of efforts between local and state disability organizations to better provide needed services

  • Increase effectiveness of all local and state disability organizations

  • Share resources, talents, information, and networking

  • There is no cost to join the coalition and membership is voluntary, as well as volunteer directed.

We welcome all organizations, agencies, offices and service providers

to join in our mission of making Beaufort County an even better place for all affected by living with a disability.

Please email us at info@disabilitiescoalition.org to join our group!

Our Core Pillars

Awareness

There are many great events, opportunities and services in our area for individuals with disAbilities. We want to make sure every person, family and provider is aware of what is offered.

We also seek to enhance public awareness of the concerns, abilities, challenges and opportunities for people with disAbilities.

Resources

Our coalition’s objective is to use each and every local resource available wisely and appropriately. And even more, to make sure every person knows how to access whatever resource they need.

Our most recent grant funded the first ever

Beaufort County disAbilities Resource Guide, published in 2021

5,000 copies of this 50-page guide

were distributed throughout the county. It’s also available in digital format on our site:
